No Job Security in IT: Pune Techie Writes in Suicide Note, Jumps From Six-Storey Hotel

The incident was reported in the light of massive lay-offs by IT companies in the city. The IT employees are now in the process of forming a union to stand up against such practices by IT companies.

Pune, 13 July 2017: A 25-year-old software engineer from Andhra Pradesh, who had started working in Pune, allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of a hotel in Viman Nagar area on Wednesday. 

In his suicide note found in hotel room, the deceased techie, identified as Gopikrishna Guruprasad, blamed job insecurity in IT sector for taking the extreme step. “In IT there is no job security. I am worried a lot about my family,” wrote the techie before ending his life.

Gopikrishna Guruprasad, who hailed from Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh, had started working for Pitney Bowes company on July 9. The company gave him accomodation in a hotel. Around 1.40 am on Wednesday, the software engineer jumped from the balcony of his sixth floor room. He was declared dead before arrival.

“We have found a note in his room which says that ‘in IT there is no job security. I am worried a lot about my family.’ His body was handed over to his family members after the post mortem examination,” Assistant police inspector Dilip Jaisingkar was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

Before coming to Pune, Gopikrishna had worked in Delhi and Hyderabad. The police has contacted his colleagues in the company and family members to probe the matter. He is survived by parents and a sister.
